A Second Artos Service ... on Monday Mornings!
Last Monday, six students gathered at 8:10 AM to begin the day, and week, in Artos-style prayer. We sang, we prayed, we read Scripture, we celebrated Communion, and we spent time in fellowship. It was an amazing experience! We'll do it again this Monday. Breakfast pastries and juice will be ready at 8:00 AM. You will easily make it to your 9:00 AM class. Join us! You will be blessed!
We will continue offer Artos at 11:00 AM on Thursdays. Lunch is served as part of the service.

Home Repairs for the Holidays
Sponsored by Wesley Community Centers
Saturday, November 21, 8:30 am - 3:30 pm
From the Wesley Community Centers Web site:
"Volunteer groups will be joining forces by donating their time, skills and materials to answer the call of Christ and to Give Feet to the Faith of the Church.Our goal is to make repairs or provide other services, such as painting and yard work, to at least 10 Senior Citizens in just 1 day! All groups—large or small—will be assigned tasks related to the seniors’ needs and to the groups’ age and abilities:
· a fresh coat of paint on those dining room walls in time for Thanksgiving dinner;
· the outside of the house pressure washed and/or painted;
· leaves raked for when the company comes;
· Or even a step or two repaired so no one gets hurt when they visit for Christmas...
In addition, each senior will receive a Holiday Food basket."
We had about 15 people express interest in this project at Sunday Celebration last week! If you'd like to sign up too, please send an email to wesley@gatech.edu.

ACTIVITIES FOR THE WEEK OF NOVEMBER 15, 2009
Sunday, November 15, 11:00 AM: Sunday Celebration (refreshments at 10:45 am)
Our "Getting Ready to Get Ready" Series continues this week with a sermon from Nancy Gerhart! Her thought-provoking devotionals introduced us to Zechariah, and to his son John (a.k.a. "the Baptist") during this past week. We look forward to hearing her bring us a divine word this Sunday. Also, we will have lunch after the service this week.
Monday, November 16, 8:10 AM: Artos

Monday, November 16, 6:21 - 8:00 PM: NEW Evening Worship
Dinner at 6:21 PM (cf. Luke 6:21 ... look it up!); our contempory worship service begins at 7:00 PM. This week, Jenni Hendrix will lead us in continuing our exploration of some practial ways we can actually live out John Wesley's Three Simple Rules.
Tuesday, November 17, 11:00 AM: A Look at the Book (bagels / drinks at 10:55 AM)
We will study the sixth and final chapter of Paul's letter to the Galatians. The height of Paul's extreme emotional outbursts are behind us now, and the letter concludes in a more subdued tone - but well worth reading and studying! For example, "Bear one another's burdens, and in this way you fulfill the law of Christ." Isn't that beautiful? What does it mean, exactly? Let's spend some time on Tuesday morning exploring it together!
Thursday, November 19, 11:00 AM: Artos

Saturday, November 21, 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM: Home Repairs for the Holidays

Methodists, according to NPR Radio Personality Garrison Keillor (forwarded from Anna Peterson):
- Methodists believe in prayer, but would practically die if asked to pray out loud.
- Methodists like to sing, except when confronted with a new hymn or a hymn with more than four stanzas.
- Methodists believe their pastors will visit them in the hospital, even if they don't notify them that they are there.
- Methodists usually follow the official liturgy and will feel it is their way of suffering for their sins.
- Methodists believe in miracles and even expect miracles, especially during their stewardship visitation programs or when passing the plate.
- Methodists think that the Bible forbids them from crossing the aisle while passing the peace.
- Methodists drink coffee as if it were the Third Sacrament.
- Methodists feel guilty for not staying to clean up after their own wedding reception in the Fellowship Hall.
- Methodists are willing to pay up to one dollar for a meal at church.
- Methodists still serve Jell-O in the proper liturgical color of the season and think that peas in a tuna noodle casserole adds too much color.
- Methodists believe that it is OK to poke fun at themselves and never take themselves too seriously.
And finally, you know you are a Methodist when:
- It's 100 degrees, with 90% humidity, and you still have coffee after the service.
- You hear something really funny during the sermon and smile as loudly as you can.
- Donuts are a line item in the church budget, just like coffee.
- When you watch a Star Wars movie and they say, "May the Force be with you, "and you respond, "and also with you."
And lastly, it takes ten minutes to say good-bye!
